Historical Events
The martyric village of Ligkiades during the Second World War was completely destroyed and rebuilt a few years later in the same place.
On October 3, 1943, six trucks with German commandos of the "Edelweiss" division invaded the village of Ligkiades in Ioannina and committed a horrible crime. They set fire to the houses of the village, killed and burned those inhabitants who had not escaped. The Nazis did not discriminate. They killed women, small children and infants indiscriminately. Of the 82 victims of the Ligkiades holocaust, 34 were children and babies, 37 were women and 11 were elderly.
